Golf at The Lost Farm and then on to Swansea

6th February 2018

Today is another golfing day and we have booked at the sister course to Barnbougle Dunes, one of the best courses in Australia. The course we are playing today is called the Lost Farm, and it was developed after Barnbougle Dunes had opened and proved to be such a great success. Built along the same sand dunes as Barnbougle there are a lot of similarities, but the fairways are a bit more generous.

We left Bridport at 8 am, just in time to get a bacon and egg roll from the local takeway, so we had a full stomach when we arrived at the course, only about 15 minutes away.

Our tee time was 9.20am, but everything was pretty flexible and we were able to tee off a little early at 9.10 am.

The carpark at The Lost Farm was not busy, but the terrain was already obvious, sand dunes and lots of them (the building is the restaurant)

The golf course is absolutely stunning ! What a contrast to the tired old Tasmania Country Club course we paid yesterday.

You need to stay on the fairway, as the rough is impossible and the bunkers unfriendly

The scenery walking around the course is stunning and we are all enjoying the round much more than yesterday. The greens are a bit slow, but otherwise the course is in excellent condition. There are no motorised carts, so we are enjoying the walk. Another unique feature of this course is that it is 20 holes!

The golf was much more strongly contested today with not a lot between the individual scores. The state of the "tournament" now is Mike slightly extended his lead by 2 points to now be 11 up. Thank goodness there was only a light breeze blowing today, as this course would be a real handful in a strong wind.

We finished our round at 2pm, and had lunch at the restaurant on the course , which is located on top of a large dune overlooking the sea. The view is stunning and the meals and drinks very reasonably priced. It was well worth the effort to come here.

From here on we part company with Kathy and David as they are heading west and we are heading South. We left the course at 3pm and we have a 3 hour drive ahead of us to get to Swansea for the night.

Arriving at our B&B at 6pm, Freycinet Waters, is a pleasant surprise. The room is very large and comfortable and we are just across the road from the bay.

A restaurant called Saltshaker is recommended for dinner, and it is just across the road, right on the waterfront.

The food was great, as was the view. By now the wind is up to around 20 knots. Just as well as we played golf in the morning !
