Golf at Country Club Tasmania before a drive to Bridport

5th February 2018

We have booked 18 holes at the Tasmania Country Club course this morning (when we are staying) at around 9.30 am. The course is not busy, so we turned up a bit early and were under way by 9.15am.

The first fairway was very ordinary and we couldn't believe a course of this standard could be presented in the way it was. The fairway was covered with dry grass clippings and the surface had been ripped up. We were less than impressed.

The second hole was not a lot better and from then on we managed to keep ahead of the greenkeeper staff doing the damage.

The course was tough, even when the fairways were in reasonable condition, and it took us a good 4.5 hours in motorised carts to complete our round.

It was the second round of our "tournament", and at this early stage, Mike is 9 stableford points ahead, with another game planned for tomorrow at The Lost Farm Course at Barnbougle Dunes. I am sure the course there will be much better presented.

Overall our impression of Country Club Tasmania was not very favourable, and it will not be on our future visit list.

After golf we went to a nearby suburb for lunch and then back on the road to Bridport to our overnight accommodation.

We were in Bridport by 4pm, and have booked a 2 bedroom apartment ( with Kathy and David), called the Old Pier Apartments.

The apartments are basic, comfortable, and well placed for the 4 of us to head off to Barnbougle in the morning for our golf game.

We are one street up from the beach, so after we had settled in I went for a walk down along the seafront, which turned out to be the biggest caravan park I have seen. What a great location for camping, plenty of room and right by the sea.

Not a bad spot for a caravan park

For dinner we wandered down the road, about 800m, the the Bridport Hotel for dinner. The food was pretty good and the staff were very friendly.
